Rootin’ Tootin’ Meat Feastin’ July 4th

Posted on Jun 12, 2014 in In the butchers | 0 comments

Independence Day, Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Now, while technically that’s nothing to celebrate over this side of the pond, we think that a lot of water has gone under the bridge since then and it seems as good an excuse for a party as any! Particularly as Independence Day is a prime time for family get togethers where vast amounts of tasty meaty fayre is consumed. As it happens, New Street Butchers has plenty of USA style food for barbecues and picnics, so why not hop on over to stock up for an American themed July 4th celebration? You will find that lots of the marinates we use are inspired by recipes that originate stateside. Lip-smacking marinated meats include: Memphis Style Sweet Honey & Mustard Pork Ribs Jalapeno & Lime Chicken Butterfies Smoked Baby Racks Ribs (Pork) Southern Style Chicken Thighs And if you’re getting the BBQ fired up on July 4th, how about these for some smokin’ ideas? 21 Day Dry Aged Rib Eye Steaks Homemade 1/4 Pound Burgers Beef Short Ribs That is probably enough to fill up a hungry cowboy’s belly, but if you’re still hankering for more, then pop over to the New Street Butchers Deli where you will find Rufus Teague Marinades straight from Kansas City, plus a range of chilli sauces and meat rubs. Yeehaaa! Happy Fourth of July...

BBQ Season Kicks Off in Horsham

Posted on May 14, 2014 in In the butchers | 0 comments

Watch out, the men folk in your family are about to summon their inner cave men! “Man make fire. Man cook meat on fire. Man feed family!” Yes, that’s right: Barbecue season is upon us. The good news is that the hunter of your household doesn’t need a spear to claim his prey, nor does he require sticks to rub together to make a fire. We’ve made his job easy by stocking up on everything he needs to provide a barbecued feast for his family, right down to the charcoal. Thank goodness for progress! To be honest, the hunter gatherers of Horsham are a fairly civilised bunch. They appreciate top quality, free range meat; they’re partial to homemade spicy and herby seasonings; and they are rather fond of tangy marinades and glazes. If last year’s anything to go by, they will be congregating at our shop this weekend to stock up on all of the above. They will be taking advantage of our great value 3 for £10 offer on some of our BBQ packs to make sure that they have plenty of tasty burgers, sausages, kebabs, ribs and other BBQ delicacies to throw on their grill. The weather forecast predicts a scorcher on Saturday and there isn’t a drop of rain forecast to dampen spirits, so please come to New Street Butchers for some hunting and gathering, Horsham...

Marmalade the way mum made it

Posted on Apr 1, 2014 in Homemade | 0 comments

Did you have a jam mad mum as a child? I did… there would always be a jam making day where pots were bubbling on the hob and jars were lined up waiting to receive deliciously fruity, sticky homemade jam. That’s what the kitchen at New Street Butchers & Deli looks like on quite a regular basis. Because we’ve cherished the memory of homemade jams, marmalades, chutneys and preserves — and we truly believe that homemade always tastes best. We’ve just made a beautiful batch of marmalade and our homemade repertoire is growing every week. So far, we’ve fine tuned our recipes for Mint Sauce, Apple Sauce, Sage Herb Jelly, Rosemary Herb Jelly, Onion Marmalade, Orange Marmalade, Lemon Marmalade, Chilli Jam and a selection of Chutneys. They taste pretty good, though we say so ourselves! We supply other brands too, but we want our customers to have the choice to buy a homemade product if they prefer, made from simple, real ingredients, which are local where possible (oranges and lemons aren’t in huge abundance in Horsham, so we have to go a bit further afield for these!). I’ve had lots of fun making marmalade this week — and I look forward to bringing more homemade recipes to the shelves at New Street Butchers & Deli. New Street Deli Marmalade is £2.25 for a 12oz (280ml)...
