Did you have a jam mad mum as a child? I did… there would always be a jam making day where pots were bubbling on the hob and jars were lined up waiting to receive deliciously fruity, sticky homemade jam.

That’s what the kitchen at New Street Butchers & Deli looks like on quite a regular basis. Because we’ve cherished the memory of homemade jams, marmalades, chutneys and preserves — and we truly believe that homemade always tastes best.

We’ve just made a beautiful batch of marmalade and our homemade repertoire is growing every week. So far, we’ve fine tuned our recipes for Mint Sauce, Apple Sauce, Sage Herb Jelly, Rosemary Herb Jelly, Onion Marmalade, Orange Marmalade, Lemon Marmalade, Chilli Jam and a selection of Chutneys.

They taste pretty good, though we say so ourselves!

We supply other brands too, but we want our customers to have the choice to buy a homemade product if they prefer, made from simple, real ingredients, which are local where possible (oranges and lemons aren’t in huge abundance in Horsham, so we have to go a bit further afield for these!).

I’ve had lots of fun making marmalade this week — and I look forward to bringing more homemade recipes to the shelves at New Street Butchers & Deli.

New Street Deli Marmalade is £2.25 for a 12oz (280ml) jar.
